Halesowen Primary Schools Swimming Festival

The 2002 Schools Swimming Festival proved to be a great success. The event was held at Halesowen Leisure Centre on Saturday June 22nd as part of the Dudley Borough Festival.

The main event was the School Team Fun Gala, which was enthusiastically enjoyed by all Halesowen School Children. Events included a fancy dress relay and an obstacle race.

The festival was organised by Halesowen Swimming Club and Allan Duffield, the event co-ordinator was very pleased with the response. “ We invite all Halesowen Primary Schools and greatly appreciate the six Schools who could support the event. The fun format has encouraged greater participation and there was a great atmosphere at the pool. We hope more schools will be able to join in the festival next year.”

The 140 children who took part all received awards for their efforts. Despite the fun nature of the events the competitive spirit of the youngsters shone through as they strove to win for their school. Lutley were the winners of the Halesowen Schools Trophy closely followed by Tenterfields, Colley Lane, Holt Farm, Cradley CofE and Caslon.

There was also an individual competition, which saw some super swimming from these talented young stars as they sprinted down the length of the Halesowen Pool.
